The number of additional malformations and known syndromes associated with cleft lip and palate have increased over the last decades. The main goal of this study was to classify and investigate the incidence of the additional malformations and syndromes associated with cleft lip and palate patients treated in our institution. One hundred and fifty one (12.2%) of 1229 patients with cleft lip and palate had 206 additional malformations (some cases had more than one malformation). The most common malformations were extracranial skeletal system malformations (23.3%). Fifty-five (4.4%) of 1229 patients were syndromic, with Pierre-Robin sequence (15 patients) the most common group. Parents need precise information regarding the prognosis and recurrence risk of the condition in addition to assistance with treatment of the cleft.
