Many different problems encountered in cases involving cerebral palsy (CP)
negatively affect the quality of life of the patients. Our aim was to examine
the life quality of adolescent CP patients and of a healthy control group.
Thirty-eight CP and 42 healthy controls, aged between 13-18 years, were
included in the study. The quality of life was evaluated through the “quality
of life scale for children between the ages 13-18”. The average age of the
cases involving CP (18 females, 20 males) was 16.2 ± 1.1 years and of the
control group (20 females, 22 males) was 17.0 ± 3.2 years. Total points on
the scale were determined as 49.24 ± 9.70 in the CP group and as 82.85
± 11.02 in the control group. For subscale scores, physical health was
determined as 49.75 ± 12.31 in the CP group and as 87.5 ± 10.12 in the
control group, while psychosocial health was determined as 48.74 ± 9.91 in
the CP group and as 78.2 ± 8.25 in the control group. Differences between
the two groups in all areas were statistically significant. The life quality
values of cases involving CP were found to be lower in all areas compared
to values of the healthy control group.
