Our aim was to investigate ultrasonographic findings in newborns with intrauterine infections and to predict poor neurologic outcome. One hundred and thirty-two newborn infants were included in the study. These 132 infants were divided into groups according to infections as follows: group 1: cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection (n: 30 infants); group 2: herpes virus (n: 35 infants); group 3: chlamydia (n: 17 infants); and group 4: infection with more than one microorganism (n: 20 infants); group 5 served as controls. Ultrasonographic findings were worse in groups 1 and 4. The importance of cranial ultrasonography in the evaluation of these infants is emphasized.
