Since polio cases have been nearly eradicated in certain parts of the world due to the polio eradication programs, Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) became the most common cause of acute flask paralysis. To date, several infectious agents such as cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus and parainfluenza viruses were accused of playing a role in the etiology of GBS. In this case report, we present a 5.5-year-old boy with GBS in whom ECHO virus 24 was isolated in stool samples. He had no complaints of either upper respiratory tract infection or gastroenteritis. Although GBS associated with ECHO virus 7 and non-polio acute flask paralysis associated with ECHO virus 6, 7, 11, 14, 24, and 25 were reported before, to the best of our knowledge, there has been no previous report of a GBS case with ECHO virus 24 in Turkey. We suggest that even in the absence of a history of infections, laboratory investigations and stool samples for virus isolation should be considered while handling patients with GBS. Anahtar Kelimeler : Guillain-Barré sendromu, akut flask paralizi, ECHO virus 24.
