The Cerebral Function Monitor (CFM) is an amplitude integrated EEG device (aEEG) specially developed for use in intensive care units. The aim of this paper was to review cases in whom we applied CFM in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and to revise our knowledge about this method that is currently used in our country. The lower and upper edges, bandwidth of tracing, convulsion pattern, and burst suppression of CFM of 25 neonates were evaluated. Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) was diagnosed in 13 (52%) patients, HIE and periventricular-intraventricular bleeding (PVIVH) in three patients (12%), PV-IVH in three patients (12%), metabolic disease in five patients (25%), and lissencephaly in one patient (4%). CFM seems to be a useful routine device in monitoring neonates due to the ease of application, since EEG education is not needed to interpret the results. CFM may be used in the diagnosis of HIE, and subclinic convulsions and to monitor the effects of antiepileptic drugs in the NICU.
