H1N1 virus infection
Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Pediatri Doçenti
Novel H1N1 (referred to as “swine flu” early on) is a new influenza virus causing
illness in humans. This new virus was first detected in the United States, but
at present has been identified worldwide. The virus spreads person-to-person,
probably in much the same way as regular seasonal influenza viruses, and causes
similar clinical disease, including more common gastrointestinal complaints.
The antiviral drugs oseltamivir and zanamivir are effective against 2009 H1N1,
and the vaccine has been on the market since early fall of 2009.
