Children were assigned to receive either omeprazole (1-3 mg/kg/day) (OKM-group) or ranitidine (4-6 mg/kg/day) (RKM-group) together with clarithromycin (15 mg/kg/day) + metronidazole (20 mg/kg/day). Hp status was checked four weeks after completion of therapy by rapid urease test and histological examination obtained by repeat endoscopy. Treatment side effects were similar in the OKM-group (n=24) and RKM-group (n=41). Hp eradication rates were 91.7% and 85.4%, respectively (p>0.05). Our study suggests that no statistical difference between OKM therapy and RKM therapy exists in terms of efficacy and side effects in children.
