Gender incongruence (CI) is a condition in which there is a marked discrepancy between one`s experienced/expressed gender and sex assigned at birth for at least 6 months, accompanied by clinically significant distress. In adolescents whose diagnosis for gender incongruence is confirmed after psychiatric evaluations, medical treatments are provided in three stages. The first stage is suppression of puberty with gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analogue therapy, the second stage is the addition of sex steroids to the treatment, the third stage is surgical correction after the age of 18 and continued sex steroid therapy. The gender adjustment process in individuals with CI is quite long and difficult. However, as social awareness and experience of clinicians increase, it will be easier for these individuals to access necessary treatments.
