Chylous ascites is the extravasation of the chyle into the peritoneal cavity and a rare clinical entity in infancy. In this report, we discuss two cases of chylous ascites, admitted to our clinics with different complaints. In both cases, ascitic fluid obtained by abdominal paracentesis, was characteristically milky with high content of triglyceride and lymphocyte. In the first case, the reason of chylous ascites which was treated by surgical operation and diet, was lymphatic obstruction caused by inguinal hernia. In the second case, primary intestinal lymphangiectasia was diagnosed with the help of the duodenal biopsies. But unfortunately, a complete cure was not achieved in spite of the albumin transfusions, steroid treatment and low fat-high protein diet. In conclusion, chylous ascites is easily diagnosed but its treatment and prognosis is variable depending on the underlying reasons.
